Jordan Gruden was born in Sandusky, Ohio, US, on the 17th of August, 1963. He was raised up as a fan of the Cleveland Browns. His father Jim Gruden was also associated with football. Jim has been working as a professional football regional scout, director of player personnel, and quarterbacks coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gruden has two brothers. One of them is Jay, who played and served as a coach in the Arena Football League.
Regarding his academics, he has studied at Clay High School. After his high school graduation in 1982, he became a part of Muskingum College. He went on studying there for one year, and later he joined the University of Dayton. Gruden got a graduation degree from Dayton University in 1986 with a major in communications.
After his graduation, he started working as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee. After some time, he widened his work experience by serving as a quarterbacks coach at Southeast Missouri State. Later in 1989, he joined the Univerisity of Pacific as an offensive assistant. Gruden then served as a special assistant for the under quarterbacks coach of San Francisco 49ers, Mike Holmgren.
By the start of 1992, he served as the special offensive assistant/wide receivers coach for the Green Bay Packers. He stayed with the Packers for three years. After that, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as the offensive coordinator. In 1998, he was appointed as the new head coach for the Oakland Raiders.
After three years, he replaced Tony Dungy as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a result, he signed a 5-year contract with them worth $17.5 million. In 2010, he joined Carrollwood Day School as a volunteer assistant offensive line coach. By the start of 2018, he rejoined the Oakland Raiders and signed a 10-year contract worth $10 million with them. It was one of the massive contracts in the league’s history.
